About the project

Disposable is a collection of a few of my favourite photographs that I’ve taken over the years using a disposable film camera. The below images were taken at one of my families farms in small-town southern Ontario, as well as various locations across Austria and Costa Rica.

In a world were digital photography has allowed us to take the same picture a hundred times over, there is something so raw and beautiful about the leap of faith you take when capturing a picture on film. You can do your best to frame the perfect image, but you never really know what you’re going to end up with until the film has developed and your opportunity to take the same picture again has surely passes. These images hold significantly more value to me than a vast majority of photos that I’ve taken using a digital camera. The fact that there is a limited number of pictures you can take on a roll of film means you have to use your pictures wisely. For me, this has a way of engraining the memories, experiences and emotions that I felt in the moment of taking each of these photos into the pictures themselves, making them so much more special in the long run.
