Monsoon Merlot

Monsoon Merlot

School Assignment, Fanshawe College

About the project

Tasked with creating a (fictional) wine label for a company drawn at random, I ended up The Weather Channel. Naturally, I felt the design and name needed to play off the notion of weather and so, ‘Monsoon Merlot’ was conceptualized.

My goal was to create the perfect red wine for a dark and stormy evening. Not only did ‘Monsoon Merlot’ have a sophisticated ring to it, but it also resulted in a perfect opportunity to play off of the characteristic of a monsoon in the advertising for the wine. As for the wine’s label, the rich blues of storm clouds demand attention and create texture, while also linking back to the blues in The Weather Channel’s logo and providing a bold backdrop for the crisp white of the copy on the bottle.

The elements of this label come together to create a classy wine with bold flavours that is much chicer than one might expect from The Weather Channel.
